Bobbin storage - help me!!!

I am in the process of cleaning & re-organizing my sewing room.  I use the word "room" very loosely.

I cannot even express how frustrated I am with my dang bobbins.  Here they are in their current state:
Not great.  Not terrible, but those strings always get all over the place, and that thing they're in is always in the way.  I've tried one of those little mini June Tailor bobbin holders, and the strings are even worse on that, because they hang down, and the cats get at them...argh.

So I was poking around on Pinterest today, and look what I found!  I think I'm going to try this.

That's 7/8" clear tubing, cut up and wrapped around each bobbin.  This is genius!

So before I drag my kids out to Home Depot against their will...if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

  1. I'm checking back to see any responses and see what you do. My kitten loves the strings on the bobbins and makes a mess. I have them thrown in a little bucket right now but then I have to dig through it to find the ones I need.

  2. I've never had a problem with bobbins, probably because the only ones I have are those that came with the sewing machine! Once I start sewing a bit more I might be in the same boat, will be interesting to see various solutions!

  3. Did you see Make It and Love It's post today? http://tinyurl.com/3sys7yv
She made a vinyl pocket thingamajig to store her jewelry in, but then talked about storing sewing notions in it as well. Maybe something like that would be helpful?

  4. My mother-in-law has a wood hanger thing simular to the one in the super long link below. She has it hanging on the wall and has the thread that matches it hanging on one stick thing and the bobbin that goes with it hanging under it. Hopes this helps!

  5. Rachel, come check out my bobbin storage here

I love it; it keeps the same color thread with the bobbin.
